Biography:
The GOAT is the alias of Chris Marcinkiewicz, a Vancouver-based Producer /DJ delivering hypnotic peak-time after-hours techno steeped in dark, abstract textures.
Marcinkiewicz carries the same atmosphere of his menacing productions into his DJ sets. He moves dance floors into unfamiliar territory by shying away from overt melodies in favour of more primal sounds. It’s a style that was heavily inspired by his early days as a punk and thrash drummer and travels to Berlin and Eastern Europe. The GOAT has shared the stage with the likes of; Chris Liebing, Layton Giordani, D-Unity, Kevin Saunderson, Dante Saunderson, Dave Angel, Claude Young, MAEDON, Cory Simpson and others.
It was his experiences as a live musician, that shaped his
focus on texture. Bands like Minor Threat, At The Drive-In, Ministry and The Locust captivated Marcinkiewicz with their ability to harmonize what many
would perceive as noise, elements like distorted chords, pummelling
rhythms , and the coarseness of a scream.
This philosophy of using dissonance as an instrument was on full display
Since his first release the Flout EP. It debuted in Beatport’s Top 100 Techno Releases chart, and climbed to the top 10 on the Top 100 Minimal Releases. Following The Flout EP, The GOAT has had 6 top 10 releases in the Beatport ‘Top 100 Releases’ charts as well as his full length album ‘The Details Are Vague’ which spend almost 2 weeks in the 1 spot of Beatport’s Raw/Deep/Hypnotic Techno chart in June 2022.
Marcinkiewicz has released on numerous known imprints across the globe including Kneaded Pains, Coincidence Records, Credo, Groundwerk Recordings, and Minimal Force Records. His music has been supported and played by Richie Hawtin, Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Witte, Risa Taniguchi, Sylvie Maziarz, Alex Bau, Theo Komp, Skirra, Anne, Psytox, JGarrett & Joel West.
Marcinkiewicz’s craft has a character that will always be immediately identifiable, because if everyone around him starts moving forward, The GOAT moves sideways.
